Woody Crowder, 69, of Mountain City, Tenn., passed away on Monday, September 9, 2019. He was born April 30, 1950 in Elizabethton, Tenn. He was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and East Tennessee State University. He managed restaurants for several years and then owned and operated Woody’s Bar-B-Que in Elizabethton for 15 years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dock R. Crowder.
He is survived by his mother, Grace Proffitt Crowder of Bluff City; his sister, Jane Crowder Fillers (Jim) of Johnson City; a special niece, Marie Fillers Johnson (Earl) of Johnson City; and a special friend, Howard Stout of Mountain City.
Woody was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and owning hunting beagles. He was an active member of the Doe Valley Sportsman Club, the National Hunting Beagle Association and multiple other hunting clubs. He was recently inducted into the National Beagle Association Hall of Fame.
A service to honor the life of Woody Crowder will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 11, in the Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Minister Tim Hall officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 12, in the Garden of Devotion at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Art Smithdeal, Roby Phillipi, Jack Stout, Terry Reynolds, Frank Bass, Jeff Stacy, Jim Fillers and Earl Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be all members of the Doe Valley Sportsman Club, Smyth County CHC and Beagles, Creston Beagle Club, and the EHS Class of 1968. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Happy Valley Memorial Park at 10:50 a.m. Thursday.
