EHS Sports Hall of Fame… Five to be inducted into Elizabethton Sports HOF on Thursday

It will be a special week on the campus of Elizabethton High School as the student body, football team, and community will be celebrating Homecoming Week 2019.
 
A part of that celebration will be the annual Elizabethton High School Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony as on Thursday, September 26th at 6 pm five new inductees will be enshrined in front of family and friends.
 
Here is a brief look at the five inductees:
 
Corey Davis
Corey was a member of the graduating class of 1989. While a Cyclone, he was a three-sport star participating in football, basketball, and track. In 1987 and 1988, Davis was an All-Conference selection in all three sports.
 
In 1988, Davis was a state finalist in the 100M, 200M, long jump, 4x100M, and 4x200M and finished fourth place in the triple jump. As the Cyclone quarterback in the same year, Davis helped to lead the Cyclones to a 9-1 overall record. As a senior, Davis was part of a team that also lost only one game.
 
Davis went on to King College where as a freshman he earned All-Tourney three times and led the team with 2.5 steals per contest and was named to the Defensive Player of the Year.
 
Transferred to ETSU in his sophomore year where he worked on the practice squad behind Keith ‘Mister’ Jennings, alongside Greg Dennis, Marty Story, Calvin Talford, and the late Alvin West.
 
Davis and his life partner, Angela Duffield, have three children– Imani (24), Seven (20), and Corian (15) and currently resides in Smyrna, GA.
 
Adam Green
Adam was a member of the graduating class of 2006. Adam excelled on the Cyclone Cross Country team where he helped lead the Cyclones Boy’s Cross Country team to a State Championship in 2004 and also two runner-up finishes in 2003 and 2005.
In the 2004 State Championship, Green finished second after losing by 2/100ths of a second. He was named All-State, All-Regional, and All-Conference three times.
He was also an All-Conference player in soccer. He signed a Cross Country scholarship with King College.
Green is married to Abbey and they have a daughter, Emmy. They reside in Johnson City.
 
John Kelley
John was a member of the graduating class of 1995. While a Cyclone, Kelley played defensive end and running back where he garnered All-Conference in his junior year and All-State and All-Conference in his senior year.
 
After high school, Kelley played semi-pro football for the Tennessee Warriors and the Tennessee Thunder. 
 
He is married to Starlette and the Kelley’s have a son, Kash. They reside in Elizabethton.
 
Andrew Carl Wetzel II
Andy was a member of the EHS Class of 1989 where he was a three-year letterman and three-year started playing tight end in football. He was named All-Conference in 1988 when the Cyclones were the co-conference champions. During Wetzel’s playing career, the Cyclones went 31-8.
 
On the hardwood, Wetzel was a three-year letterman playing forward and was named All-Conference in 1989. Wetzel also played baseball for Elizabethton where he earned two letters playing the outfield.
 
After high school, Wetzel received a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from ETSU. He coached football, basketball, baseball, and soccer youth teams and also coached the EHS freshman basketball team from 2000-2002.
 
Wetzel is a Battalion Chief with the Elizabethton Fire Department where he has worked for 21 years. He also is a Master Sergeant in the United States Marine Corp Reserves having served for 21 years.
 
He and his wife, Jenny, are the owners/operators of the World Famous, Award-winning Stateline Drive-In Theater in Elizabethton since 1995.
 
The Wetzels have three children – Drew, Ryan, and Nate and reside in Elizabethton.
 
Len Dugger
Coach Len Dugger coached boys basketball for 17 years where his teams went 304-195 and had one state basketball appearance.
 
Dugger also is known through the state for leading the Elizabethton girls’ basketball team for nine seasons which included a coaching record of 236-39. His teams made five state basketball appearances and captured the State Championship one time.
 
Dugger is married to Mrs. Dianne Dugger.
