Carl Edward “Eddie” Witten

Carl Edward “Eddie” Witten, 64, of Richlands, Va., formerly of Tazewell, Va., passed away Monday, September 23, 2019, at his home. Born September 12, 1955 at Tazewell, Va., he was a son of the late Ralph “Sonny” Witten and Martha Bundy Witten.
Ed was a 1974 graduate of Tazewell High School, where he was an outstanding athlete and lettered in Football, Basketball, and Track. Ed received a scholarship to Bluefield College and graduated from East Tennessee State University in 1978. He previously taught and coached at Carter County Schools.
Ed also had worked as a letter carrier at Vienna Post Office. He was a former member of Tazewell Baptist Church and current member of Lebanon Memorial United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his sons, Ryan Witten and wife, Kelly, Shawn Witten and wife, Katie, and Jason Witten and wife, Michelle; grandsons, C.J., Cooper and Rider Witten; granddaughters, Natalie, Brooke, Landry and Hadley Witten; special aunt, Catherine Humphrey; special friends, Carolyn Carles, Joe and Kim McGraw, Jim Ed Peery, Rocky Horton, Joel Clark, Jim Safewright, Billy Jones, Steve Lester, Michael Moore, Junior and Ann Clark, David and Jamie Gilmer, Susie Thompson, Buddy McGlothlin, Kent Pomrenke, Barbara Johnson, Carol McGlothlin, John Adams, Phillip Henley, Darrell Tayer, Walt Parker, Woody McClanahan, Jackie Witten, Clyde Duty, Janice Belcher, Ken Morrison, Robert Harris and Lynn Dugger.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, September 30, at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, Va., where memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. with Pastor Rod Wicker officiating. In keeping with his wishes, there will be cremation and interment will be private at Maplewood Cemetery in Tazewell, Va.
