The midway point of the season is this week and after battling valiantly in the early going without any positive results, the Cloudland Highlanders picked up a huge road win last week on the road at Hancock County and look to bring that momentum back to Roan Mountain tonight when they play host to their state line rivals Avery County.
Cloudland won big last year and Avery Co. will be looking for revenge on Orr Field with a 7:30 pm kickoff for the non-conference clash.
Other big games this week include cross-county rivals Happy Valley heading to Stoney Creek to take on the Unaka Rangers. The Warriors got back on track last week with a road win at Cosby after suffering a bad loss at Unicoi Co. the week before.
Meanwhile, the Unaka Rangers are hoping to quit shooting themselves in the foot this week as turnovers have played a huge part in the Rangers misfortunes so far.
It’s homecoming week for the Elizabethton Cyclones as they welcome the undefeated Cherokee Chiefs to Citizens Bank Stadium for a 7:30 pm kickoff. The Cyclones will have to be careful not to let all the week’s festivities deter their focus as Chief quarterback Caleb Trent will look to help Cherokee spoil the fun for the Cyclones.
Coach Shawn Witten will look to Bryson Rollins, Cade Maupin, and Parker Hughes to keep the Cyclones on their winning track as they work toward a collision with Greeneville in a few short weeks.
Hampton welcomes the Johnson County Longhorns to JC Campbell Stadium tonight as Coach Michael Lunsford looks to have his team ready to get back in gear after taking last week off and getting some kinks worked out heading into the second half of the season.
Local fans have a lot of great football to choose from and hopefully, all stands will be full to capacity enjoying another Friday Night Lights weekend.
