After losing a heartbreaker to Happy Valley in week three, the Hampton Bulldogs have seen a different type of motivation that has fueled a two-game winning streak where the Bulldogs have put up at least forty points in both games while holding their opponents to only eight total points.
Hampton looks to keep the train rolling as they head into the black hole in Kingsport to take on the Sullivan North Raiders.
Looking back on last week’s big win over Johnson County head coach Michael Lunsford said, “We played very well in all three phases of the game. On defense, we had two turnovers, got the ball back on kickoff a couple times, and executed very well on offense.
“Without playing well in all three phases thirty-seven points in one quarter doesn’t happen.”
Going into this week’s game on the road Lunsford stated, “We’re just looking to build off of what we did last week. We need to have the same intensity in all three phases as we have been.
“We have really been feeding off of our defense with the way they have been setting us up on offense. One thing we need to make sure we do is to keep them off the field on offense.
“To do that, we need to prevent their short gains that lead to a first down conversion on third down.”
When asked about a specific gameplan Lunsford expounded, “Each week we are looking for something to improve. We’ve just gotta keep doing what we’ve been doing while getting better at it each week. If we can improve our style of play then I like our chances.”
Speaking about key players in this week’s game Lunsford explained, “We’ve got a ton of superstars on this team and when they play it’s a group effort out there. We don’t have to rely on one guy- we’ve got a whole group out there that work as a unit to get it done.”
Kickoff for the game between the Hampton and Sullivan North is set for tonight at 7:30 p.m at Sullivan North High School.
