On a night set aside to honor five seniors, the Elizabethton Lady Cyclone volleyball team gave them a night to remember as the Lady Cyclones got a small measure of revenge by defeating the team that eliminated them from post-season play last season by taking down the Greeneville Greene Devils in a 3-1 final.

The first set was a back and forth affair as the Lady Cyclones jumped out front and looked prime to take the opener as senior Hannah Boster and Kaitlin Bailey was dominating at the nets in the early going.

However, the Lady Greene Devils somehow managed to get their bearings and settled to win the opening set 26-24.

It was the last real opportunity that Greeneville had in the match as the Lady Cyclones settled in and relaxed to play their style of volleyball to dominate set two and three winning the second set 25-11 and then whipped their visitors in set three by a 25-7.

With one last gasp to stay in the match, the Lady Greene Devils fought to force a fifth and decisive set but Elizabethton would have none of it as the Lady Cyclones won 25-21 to secure the victory.

The left-handed hitter Boster led her team in kills by knocking down 14 of them- many coming on well-placed shots that the Lady Greene Devils struggled to react to. Bailey and Smith also came up big collecting eight kills apiece while Whitley Maupin finished with seven.

Smith led defensively with 22 digs. Senior Deanna Hull enjoyed her Senior Night by registering 17 digs while Maupin registered 11. Senior Josie Lyons didn’t miss her opportunity to shine either adding 10 digs.

The win ran the Lady Cyclones season record to 21-14, a 60 percent winning clip which is strong for volleyball playing some tough competition.

Elizabethton is now ready to enter the district fray beginning Monday at Sullivan Central in a single-elimination format with a regional berth on the line.
