Following discussions between the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the City of Elizabethton, the decision was made to close the Southside Road over Gap Creek Bridge.

Starting on Monday, Oct. 7, this bridge will be closed to motorists for an undetermined length of time. Recent inspection of the bridge found it to be in poor condition, with heavy corrosion, as well as severe concrete deterioration and exposed reinforcing steel. The decision to close a bridge is never taken lightly, but closing this bridge is the correct one in order to maintain the safety of the motoring public.
