Willie O’Neil Gleaton

Rev. 21: 3-4: “And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes: and there shall be no more death, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
Willie O’Neil Gleaton, 81, of Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2019, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
Born August 8, 1938 in South Carolina to the late Willie and Mertis Pagget Gleaton, he had lived in Tennessee for 55 years.
Willie was retired from Mor-Flo, Johnson City, and was a member of Union Baptist Church. He loved the outdoors and gardening.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters.
Survivors include his very loving fiancé and best friend of 13 years, Elizabeth Slagle; a daughter and son-in-law, Mertis Irene (Mike) Taylor, Mountain City; a sister, Elizabeth; a special daughter, Leslie Cumbow; and a grandson, Adrian Cumbow.
The graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, will be Adrian Cumbow, Bruce Deal, Lawson Deal, Leslie Cumbow, Jason Cumbow and Raymond Campbell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Elizabeth Slagle. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday to go to the cemetery.
