The Cloudland Highlanders and the Hampton Bulldogs are set for their second matchup of the 2019 season Friday night at Orr Field in what is always a rivalry matchup.
The first game between these two teams was a one-sided affair where it seemed like Hampton could do no wrong and it was just the opposite for the Highlanders resulting in a 42-0 shutout win for the Bulldogs.
When asked how he wants his team to keep the momentum going against their Carter County foes Hampton head coach Michael Lunsford said, “What people forget is that we played probably our best game all year. That being said, if we can’t execute the way we did last time then we’re gonna be in there for a dogfight.”
He continued, “We’ve got to be able to run the football and not rely on the passing game as much. If you can’t line up and whip somebody upfront then the game’s gonna be much more challenging.”
On the other hand, Cloudland and their interim head coach and Athletic Director Scott Potter are looking for a different outcome than it was in week four.
Potter said, “These past two weeks we’ve worked on getting in shape, looking to get off the ball better and be able to outlast our opponents going forward.”
Speaking on the rivalry itself Potter said, “Back when I played for big Mike, we played Hampton twice in the season. Since they had gone away from that and then brought it back, it’s new to these guys but it just makes the rivalry so much sweeter.
“Hampton’s been thriving and we’ve been struggling so I hope we can turn that around this week.”
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m Friday night at Orr field in Roan Mountain.
