Barbara Rose Bristol Hampton

Barbara Rose Bristol Hampton, 83, of Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2019, at Hermitage Health Care.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Harris Bristol Sr. and Margaret Bishop Bristol.
Barbara was a 1954 graduate of Elizabethton High School and attended East Tennessee State University where she was involved in the ROTC Department. She was Secretary to the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Washington. Following that she served in the U.S. Embassy in London for two years and also NATO in Paris for three years.
Returning to Elizabethton she received her Master’s Degree in Education in 1963. She taught Reading in Atlanta and Bristol. She was a member of the GFWC Elizabethton Woman’s Club. Barbara enjoyed her yearly shopping trips to Pigeon Forge with friends and family. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. She had been involved with the Food for the Multitude and Care & Share.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Henry “D.H.” Hampton Sr., August 21, 2019, and a brother, Harris Bristol Jr.
Survivors include her step-sons, Edward Hampton and wife Teresa Collins and David Hampton Jr. and wife Deborah Hughes Hampton; her step-grandchildren, Elizabeth Hampton Davis, Chris Davis, Jonathan Hampton and David Hampton III; her great-grandchildren, Jack Davis, Thomas Davis and Benjamin Davis; a brother, Kenneth Bristol and wife Jody; her sister-in-law, Betty Bristol; her niece, Lisa (Nick) Botts; her nephews, Larry (Amanda) Bristol and Greg (Layla) Bristol; and her aunt, Gertrude Bishop. Several cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Thursday, October 17, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Father Timothy Holder officiating. The graveside service and interment will be at 10 a.m. Friday, October 18, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Hermitage Health Center and her caregivers, Teresa Hayes, Jackie Bowers and Zdenka Ingram. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Hampton to the Elizabethton Library, 201 N. Sycamore Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery.
