HAMPTON- Friday night saw a battle of the heavyweights as undefeated, division leader South Greene made the trip to Hampton to take on the Bulldogs in a huge matchup in terms of the division title race.

One team came to play Friday, and that team was Hampton as they would knock the Rebels off their high horse, 30-0.

The Bulldogs would start as they meant to go on with Hampton running back Matt Hughes leading the charge breaking a 61-yard touchdown run to give Hampton the early 8-0 lead.

South Greene took the field looking to spark some momentum on the offense. The bad news for them was that the Bulldog defense came to play.
Hampton pushed star quarterback Levi Myers and the Rebel defense to a three and out.
With momentum building, Hampton marched back on to the field looking for more points.
More points were exactly what they got as the Bulldog’s rushing attack was nothing short of spectacular as the wealth was shared amongst their backs.
Punching it in on this drive was Isaiah Greenwell as he would find the edge and take it in from the three. After a two-point conversion, the Bulldogs led 16-0.
Down big early, the Rebels were desperate for any sort of answers to try and find the end zone to keep it from getting out of hand, but the Hampton Bulldogs defense came to play.
The Bulldogs defense allowed an astonishing 10 yards of total offense in the first half and the only Rebel first downs came from penalties. The first half totally belonged to the ‘Dogs defense.
The offense found more success on the ground through the stable of Hughes, Greenwell, Macon Barden, and Caleb Oaks, however, the Bulldogs couldn’t find the end zone again in the first half.
There was little need to pass, but the Bulldogs did complete a double reverse, flea-flicker just before the half for a touchdown, but it was negated by a penalty.
Down 16 at the half and showing very few signs of life, South Greene took the ball and once again couldn’t get anything going. The Bulldogs defense stood stout forcing yet another three and out.
Hampton would take over and make short work of getting back on the scoreboard. This time, Greenwell busted a 58- yard run for a touchdown making the score 22-0.
The remainder of the third quarter was much of the same story with the South Greene offense finding absolutely nothing as the defensive line of the Bulldogs played maybe it’s best game of the season.
The offense would milk the clock with run after run all the way down to the 4th quarter until the Bulldogs would find the end zone yet again with Jonah Jones making sure people knew he was still playing punching it over from a few yards out.
Up 30, the Bulldogs kept the clock running until the score went final 30-0.
The running game played incredibly well, but this game was won in the trenches, exactly where Coach Lunsford said his team would have to perform well to find the win.
The win gives Hampton a notch up in the division race and marks the first blemish in the loss column for the South Greene Rebels.
Next Friday, the Bulldogs will host the Rangers of Unaka looking to continue their five-game winning streak.
