It was a great week for the Cloudland Highlanders last week as they put on a firework show for their fans in a blowout 50-28 win over Jellico Friday night.
But there can’t be too much time for celebration as the Highlanders will have to turn right back around for a game against a talented Johnson County Longhorns team this Friday.
Looking back on last week’s big win head coach Scott Potter said, “I think we came out and played very well. Our linemen did a great job blocking for our guys in the backfield.
“They worked very well together which gave our backs some good lanes to run through. Defensively, we played very well; our defense came out and had a plan and they executed it beautifully, holding their offense to minimal scoring until the younger guys came in.”
Now looking ahead towards this game and the rest of the season Potter stated, “Well these guys are definitely bigger and stronger than the guys we went up against last week. They are definitely a lot more physical which means that we are gonna have to match that physicality if not outdo it.
“They use a lot of different sets which makes them hard to prepare for but I believe my guys will be ready to compete.”
Potter continued, “Well it’s almost playoff time so one of the main things we need to get down is our blocking because going forward our linemen are gonna go up against guys that are a lot bigger.
“We also need to work on our execution – if we can execute our game plan then we have a shot at every game.”
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday night at Johnson County High School.
