Cloudland High School alongside the Tennessee Department of Education recently celebrated Early Post-Secondary Opportunity Week (EPSO) October 21-25, 2019.

The state of Tennessee recognizes nine different ways to promote post-secondary opportunities in our public high schools including Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment, Local Dual Credit, Industry Certifications, Cambridge International Exam, International Baccalaureate, College Level Examination Program, and Statewide Dual Credit.

Of the nine offered across the state, Cloudland High School currently offers Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment, Local Dual Credit, Industry Certifications, and Statewide Dual Credit.

So what does this mean for Cloudland High School students?

CHS is partnered with Northeast State, TCAT Elizabethton, Middle Tennessee State University, and Tusculum University to offer Dual Enrollment, Local Dual Credit, and Statewide Dual Credit courses to 11th and 12th graders planning to attend those institutions.

Many CHS teachers have been trained and certified to teach Advanced Placement and Statewide Dual Credit courses in the building allowing students to potentially “test out” of courses in the post-secondary setting.

Cloudland also offers Industry Certifications in Certified Nursing Assistant and is working towards Microsoft Office and OSHA certifications for students to obtain.

By offering these Early Post-Secondary Opportunities, schools across the state of Tennessee are regularly immersing students in rigorous courses and course work to better prepare them for their future schooling or career plans.

EPSO Week 2019 at Cloudland High included the following activities to promote post-secondary awareness: College Gear Day, guest speakers from TCAT Elizabethton and Northeast State, morning announcements recognizing EPSOs, University of Tennessee Knoxville and Northeast State Community College campus tours for students.

Also, new signage in the school building showing where EPSO classes are offered, a family and community night where students and families were assisted with FAFSA completion and also learned about post-secondary opportunities, and also many conversations by administrators, counselors, and teachers about post-secondary opportunities for students.
