Dog bit… Hampton takes down Unicoi County Jr. Devils, 52-32

UNICOI – The Hampton Bulldogs continued their sizzling play to open the 2019 season after winning the Tiger Invitational in Blountville by taking down the Unicoi County Jr. Blue Devils on the road by 20 points, 52-32.
The two teams played evenly in the opening half as the Bulldogs managed to squeeze out a 21-18 lead after the first half of action.
Hayden Campbell led the way for the Jr. ‘Dogs in the first half with six points while Michael Anspaugh, Geno Carrico, and Chance Point added four points apiece. Dylan Trivett added two points and JJ McElyea hit 1-of-2 free throws in the half.
Whatever Coach Dewayne Humphrey’s message to his team at the half was but whatever it was it definitely stirred a fire as the Bulldogs exited the locker room and proceeded to outscore the Jr. Blue Devils 19-9 in the third period to seize control of the game 40-27 heading into the final six minutes of play.
Campbell dropped in six points in the stanza to aid in building the lead with Trivett and Grayson Young tickling the twine for four points apiece. Carrico blistered the net from beyond the arc for a trey and Anspaugh added a bucket as well.
The Jr. Dogs kept up the offensive intensity in the final period outscoring Unicoi Co. 12-5 to take the victory.
Campbell led the way finishing with 18 points, seven rebounds, three steals, and three blocks in the contest. Anspaugh had a big night with eight points, four rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
Carrico added seven points, four rebounds, and two steals. Trivette (6), Point (4), Young (4), McElyea (3), and Chandler Smith (2) closed out the scoring for the Bulldogs.
Point also cleaned the boards for six rebounds in the game.
