JASPER (AP) — A sheriff’s office in Georgia says a deputy was injured in a car chase that ended when another deputy shot and wounded the suspect.
A Dade County Sheriff’s statement Wednesday says deputy Kevin Haswell saw a suspicious vehicle Tuesday. It says the driver, 24-year-old Grandall Massengale, wouldn’t pull over, and began swerving at high speeds in a car determined to be stolen. Haswell chased him into Marion County, Tenn., where the deputy crashed.
The statement says other deputies continued the chase and one later shot Massengale, who was taken to a hospital. His condition wasn’t released. The deputy who crashed also was checked out and released from a hospital.
The Times Free Press reports the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the case. The deputies are on leave.
