CONTRIBUTED — According to Washington County Sheriff Ed Graybeal, two men were arrested following a lengthy burglary investigation which began back in April. On April 30 a garage was burglarized on Charlie Carson Road in Jonesborough where suspects forced open a garage door and stole a 2010 Mustang Shelby car. Investigators processed evidence left at the crime scene and later sent items to the TBI crime lab for analysis.

That information helped lead to the arrests of Shannon Lynn Harris, 40, 511 Holston Ave., Erwin, and Christopher Eugene Hammett, 44, of Limestone. Both individuals were questioned by investigators who each confessed to taking the stolen Mustang. The Mustang was later found destroyed in Pike County, Ky., by Kentucky State Police. Harris and Hammett were indicted by a grand jury and both now face one count of aggravated burglary in addition to one count of theft (over $60,000). Both suspects were served presentment warrants Friday and booked into the Washington County Detention Center.

Both are being held on a $25,000 bond. They are scheduled for appearance in Criminal Court on February 10 at 9 a.m. The investigation remains on-going and more charges are possible. Anyone with additional information about this case is asked to contact the Criminal Investigation Division at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office by calling 423-788-1414.
