Thirteen inductees were present to be honored with induction into the Carter County Sports Hall of Fame Saturday that was held at the Tennessee Technology Center.
Over 100 people attended the event with guest speaker Mayor Rusty Barnett.  Nanny’s Restaurant provided the meal and everyone had plenty to eat.
Special guests were Sam Laporte, Ronnie Hicks, Ryan Nave, Bunny Taylor, Dana Hill, Willie Malone and some of the players from the Happy Valley 1974 State Championship team.
The ’74 team was presented a gold ring inscribed with the words H.V. Warriors 1974 State Champs by the Hall of Fame committee.
Malone had the line of the night saying, “We weren’t trying to win a state championship, we were just trying to figure out how to get through those revolving doors at the S&W cafe in Nashville.”
Malone was present to induct his former teammate and friend Wes Forbes.  Malone said Hardy Graham, from Union City,  was voted MVP by the TSSAA in 1960 but recently himself, Jerry White, Carl Roberson, and Bobby Stout voted Wes the new 1960 State M.V.P.
Nominations are now being accepted for next year’s induction which will be held in June.  To nominate your favorite player, coach, etc. go to www.carterhalloffame and fill out the form.
