The Adventures of Birding Mini-Workshop — From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, join Park Ranger Phil Hylen for an introductory workshop into birding with a twist! Participants will enjoy a beginner’s birding workshop for our wintering birds of Tennessee, a live owl experience, and a chance to learn a fun family craft that will showcase your favorite wintering birds for the holiday season. Coffee and donuts will be available at the headquarters to warm up after a brisk hike.
This class will take place starting and ending at the park headquarters building. Participants are encouraged to bring water bottles, hiking shoes, a camera, and dress for outdoor conditions. Binoculars are also recommended, but extra will be available. A small birding hike will travel ~0.5 miles. This course is limited to 20 participants at a fee of $10 per person. Meet at the Park Headquarters Building.
Friday, Nov. 29
After Thanksgiving Hike — 10 to 11 a.m. — It’s time to burn off that delicious Thanksgiving meal by taking a quick hike in the woods! Join Park Ranger Keifer Helle at the Campground Check-In Station for a hike on the Tom Gray Trail. While we’re hiking, we’ll be observing and discovering many of the neat natural features that make the Appalachian Mountains so unique. Weather is a little unpredictable this time of year, so make sure you bring sturdy boots and warm clothes.

The Roan Mountain Christmas Roundup (A Roundup of Regional Artisans & Craftsmen – Genuine Treasures of the Mountains) are coming to the Cloudland High School Gym, 476 Cloudland Drive, Roan Mountain, on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. with handmade arts and crafts that make perfect Christmas gifts for your loved ones and friends!
