As many teams in Carter County have been eliminated from the football playoffs, basketball season around the area is beginning to take full effect.
Two of these teams, the Happy Valley Warriors and the Chuckey Doak Black Knights, squared off Tuesday night.
It was the girls that started things off and it was an explosive start for the Lady Warriors as they took a 10-0 lead to close out the first quarter.
As the second quarter got underway it was the same story for Happy Valley. Tremendous shooting continued a dominating performance for the Lady Warriors, helping them take a commanding 28-8 lead into the break.
Coming out after the halftime break not much had changed for the Lady Warriors as their impressive shooting along with their solid defense carried them to a 43-18 edge heading into the final quarter.
As time expired the Lady Warriors were able to cruise to a lopsided victory, 53-30.
En route to their victory, Olivia Absher led the Lady Warriors with 11 points followed closely by Shalyn Whitson with 9, Emma Blevins with 8 points, and Autumn Henegar scoring 7.
After a short break in between the two games, it was time for the varsity boys team to get their piece of the action.
After a dominating performance by the Lady Warriors in the game before, the contest at hand was a back and forth one.
When one team would score, it seemed as if the other team would answer right back. Eventually, the visitors from Chuckey Doak would slightly separate themselves with a slim 20-17 lead to end the first quarter.
The Warriors would fight their way back in the second quarter but the visitors would still be able to have an answer for everything that was thrown at them.
After the first half was all said and done, the Warriors and Black Knights were all knotted up at thirty-four a piece.
The Warriors were able to strike first in the second half and with the help of lockdown defense, took a narrow four-point edge going into the final quarter, 51-47.
In the fourth quarter, Happy Valley was able to find their rhythm going on a 7-0 run to start the final eight minutes. And even after an exciting comeback attempt by the visiting Black Knights, the home team was able to survive with a four-point win, 67-63.
In the hard-fought win by the Warriors, Noah Stevens led his team with 24 points while Luke Roberts put up 15 and James Harmon scored 10.
