Tickets now on sale for annual Feast of Joy Christmas Dinner

Tickets are now available for the 21st Annual Fundraising event — Feast of Joy Christmas Dinner for The Shepherd’s Inn–Safe House/Emergency Shelter for Women and Children.

The Elizabethton event will be held Monday night, Dec. 9.

Entertainment will include keyboardist David Arney and the featured entertainment will be renowned David Browning, who has made a living by transforming himself into many characters. He has bridged the gap between the past and today with The Mayberry Deputy, Lincoln and Ebenezer Scrooge. In addition to his other performing work, Browning is proud to continue performing his one-man show, “A Christmas Carol.”

For over four decades, Browning has been a popular performing artist, national speaker and host. He uses characterization, costuming, gestures and facial expressions to provide his audiences with non-offensive, thoughtful, memorable performances, appealing to diverse ages and backgrounds.

He has performed over 5,500 shows in 40 states and Canada, as well international ship cruises to over five million people. Browning’s experience consists of free-lance voice, acting, theatre directing, management, and tourism development. As the Mayberry Deputy, he has opened for Don Knotts “Barney Fife,” and  George Lindsey, “Goober,” and continues to appear with other original stars of The Andy Griffith Show including James Best, “Jim Lindsey” and “Rosco P. Coltrane” of Dukes of Hazzard. Browning is proud to have worked with Carl Hurley’s Cavalcade of Comedy and Carl May’s People of Passion Celebration.

Browning’s dramatic presentation of “SCROOGE” takes the audience back to the mid 1800s with this one man show.

David Arney is a renowned keyboardist. His talents have been witnessed by thousands who have experienced his creative arrangements of a vast genre of musical renditions. David serves as organist at Elizabethton’s First United Methodist Church. He will perform during the meal.

In addition to the music, the Feast of Joy will again showcase the talents of Lucas Hitchew and Jim Cates as they provide “floormosphere” laughs for the audience.

The Annual Feast of Joy Christmas Dinner is a fundraising event and is held at Elizabethton’s First Baptist Church at 212 E. F St. Hors d’oeuvres are served at 6 p.m. The hors d’oeuvres are contributed from some of the community’s well known restaurants. Dinner follows at 6:30 p.m. with cuisine prepared by Chef Eric Hoglund, retired Executive Chef of the Johnson City Country Club, and served by the students of the Carter County 4-H  Club.

The Shepherd’s Inn is a safe house/emergency shelter for women and their children escaping domestic violence settings and is supported by community gifts. Tickets for The Feast of Joy are $20 each and additional contributions are welcomed. Reservations are required, and can be made by calling 423-543-1931. Seating is limited.
