Helen Elizabeth Howell Miller, 83, of Elizabethton, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 30, 2019, at her residence.
She was born on May 6, 1936 in Hot Springs, N.C., to the late Henry and Juanita Johnson Howell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Terry Miller; her brothers, Charles Howell, Junior Howell and Jay Howell; and her sister, Marie Oliver.
Most of her life she was in the restaurant business. Up until her death, she was still making her famous homemade pies with her secret pie crust recipe. On Friday, prior to her death, she had made pies for Nancy’s (sister) Family Restaurant where she was known as the “Pie Queen.”
Helen’s greatest joy in life was her grandchildren, cooking for her family and friends, and for over 60 years her hobby was Bingo.
Survivors include her children, Debbie Hinkle and husband Eddie, Sam Miller and wife Scarlett, all of Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Shawna Buckles and Jason (spouse), Mandy Ward and Travis (spouse), Justin McKinney and Lindsey (spouse), Destiny Blair and Dalton Blair; six great-grandchildren, Paige Taulbee and Eric (spouse), Tyrus Buckles, Josie Ward, Sadie Ward, Seth Buckles and Maddox McKinney; two great-great-grandsons, Urijah and Everett Taulbee; and her siblings, Jack Howell and Brenda (spouse), Donna Lowry and Nancy Markland. She had many special nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, December 6, at Memorial Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, prior to the service.
