Some thoughts about defending lawbreakers

To the Editor:
Nobody is above the law. Nobody. I often wonder if they’ll even teach about Watergate after this administration. Richard Nixon was a popular president until he wasn’t. I’m not old enough to remember — I wasn’t born yet — but I know what I was taught in school and through my studies over the years.
They don’t teach us about his defenders, and many of those people are no longer vocal about their support for him. They teach us about the brave people who worked to uncover his corruption. Who will Phil Roe, Lamar Alexander and Marsha Blackburn be to history? I suspect they’ll be minions whose most remembered moment is defending a traitor who would risk the security of our elections and our standings around the globe to defend a con man. But it’s their choice. They have another option. They could do better. They could leave a legacy that their grandchildren will be proud of.
