Donald L. Hardin

Donald L. Hardin, 90, of Elizabethton, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, December 8, 2019, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital after an extended illness.
A native of Big Stone Gap, Va., he was a son of the late Auda A., of the Hardin Brothers Quartet, and Viola Peters Hardin. He lived most of his life in Elizabethton.
Don served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict where he received a Purple Heart and other service related metals. He was an employee of American Bemberg Corporation and North American Rayon Corporation for 25 years. He was also an electrician and pipe fitter and a millwright at various construction companies.
Don was also a self-employed auto mechanic. He was a member of New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Terry Hardin; three brothers, Charles, Danny Ray and Olan “Pie” Hardin; and a sister, Alma “Bo” Williams.
Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Carol Groce Hardin; his children, Randy Hardin and wife Darlene, Tim Hardin and wife Doris, and Wendy Watson; his grandsons, Andy Hardin and wife Monica, Joshua Hardin and wife Diana, and Cory Watson and wife Sheena; a great-granddaughter, Callie Hardin; his sisters, Georgia Ellis and Vera Smith; a brother, David “Doug” Hardin; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 10, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Nicholas Colbaugh and the Rev. Ray Colbaugh officiating. The graveside service and interment will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 11, in the Blevins Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Andy Hardin, Josh Hardin, Cory Watson, Robert Groce, Frank Peters and Darrell Byrd. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church, Bill Gentry, Leonard Lewis, his nephews and the staff of the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Don to the Blevins Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 406, Elizabethton, TN 37644 or the New Liberty FWB Youth, 113 Peters Hollow Road, Elizabethton, TN 37643. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at his residence. Friends will assemble at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday.
