Wanda Lee Tipton

Wanda Lee Tipton, 85, of Burnsville, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 9, 2019, at Select Specialty Hospital in Bristol, Tenn., after a brief illness. A native of Green Mountain, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Floyd B. and Ethel Johnson Peterson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ted Tipton, who passed away on December 1, 2018.
Wanda was a 1952 graduate of Tipton Hill High School and an active member of Peterson Chapel Brethren Church, where she was the superintendant for a number of years. She taught craft making at Mayland Technical College for a number of years and was a faithful participant at the Mt. Mitchell Crafts Fair, where she made quilts, dolls, aprons and various crafts. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother and sister.
Surviving is her daughter, Donna Tipton Charlton and husband, Mike, of Burnsville, N.C.; sister, Juanita Gouge, a resident of The Waters in Johnson City, Tenn.; brother-in-law, Stanley Tipton of Erwin, Tenn.; and sisters-in-law, Barbara Miller and Betty Tipton, both of Green Mountain, N.C. Several cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, December 13, in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Randy Griffith, Rev. Jim Griffith and Rev. Terry Long will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. An additional funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Ledford Funeral Home in Erwin, Tenn., with Rev. Randy and Jim Griffith officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
