Lola Bowers

On Monday, December 23, 2019, Lola Bowers, 84, of Elizabethton, Tenn., entered home to be with her Lord and Savior.
Lola was born on March 8, 1935 to the late Maynard and Carma Collins. She spent most of her career working at Citizens Bank where she met and became friends with many in the community. She was a devoted member of Caldwell Springs Baptist Church and loved her church family very much.
Lola was married to the late John F. Bowers. They spent their lives together making wonderful memories by traveling the country, camping and taking care of each other.
Many that knew Lola affectionately called her “Dodo.” She was a caring and fun loving sister, aunt and friend. Dodo wanted those around her to love Jesus Christ, be happy and live life to the fullest.
Lola was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sisters, Burna Pierce, Myrtle Gilliam and Novella Heaton; and her brothers, Earl Collins, Arthur Collins and Willard Collins.
She is survived by her sister, Betty Edwards; two brothers, Bob Collins and Luther Collins; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sue and Lloyd Lowe; and a brother-in-law, Ken Gilliam.
A service to celebrate the life of Lola Bowers will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, December 28, in the Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Doug Hinshaw officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1 until 3 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service, or at the home of Lola Bowers at other times. The graveside service will follow in the Pearl Bowers Cemetery with Rev. Doug Hinshaw officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be her Caldwell Springs Church family, those who visited during her illness and the employees who worked with her at Citizens Bank. The family would like to especially thank Scarlett Murphy, Dawn Simpson, Caris Hospice, Dr. Vivian Clark and all of the others who cared for Lola during her illness. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Caldwell Springs Building Fund, 1509 Blue Springs Road, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
