Anytime Happy Valley and Hampton mix it up whether in football, basketball, or horseshoes one can expect a physical affair and that’s exactly what happened Monday night at VanHuss White Gym for exactly eight minutes.
From that point, the Bulldogs chomped down hard on their visitors and before the final horn sounded Hampton had handed their cross-county rivals a 36-point defeat, 79-43.
The first quarter was definitely a battle as bodies were flying everywhere and a lid seemed to be covering the baskets at both ends of the floor as Hampton managed to sneak out to a very slim 11-6 advantage after the first eight minutes of play.
Morgan Lyons four points helped to put his team out front early while the Warriors Luke Roberts scored all six of Happy Valley’s points in the period.
The Bulldogs then broke loose over the next two periods of play leaving no doubt who would be at the top of the final outcome as Hampton blistered the cotton to the tune of 60 points over the 16-minute span while holding the Warriors to 27 points over the same time frame.
Jordan Bentley could have closed his eyes and got his shot to fall on Monday as Bentley’s 22 points over the second and third quarter was the difference in the game.
Matt Hughes also rang up double figures in the two frames knocking down 12 points to help comfortably keep the Bulldogs in the driver’s seat.
Caleb Oaks may need to change his name to the ‘Garbage Man’ as Oaks was sweeping the boards and imposing his will on the inside to score 10 points during the ‘Dogs run.
Roberts scored nine points in the second and third frame while Alex Lunceford chipped in with eight points all coming in the third period.
The fourth period amounted to a clean-up period as several players got to see action down the stretch.
Bently scored 24 points in the contest to lead Hampton while Hughes finished the night with 15 points as well. Oaks and Lyons totaled 10 points each in the  ‘Dogs victory.
