Luther Arwood, 84, of Elizabethton, passed away Monday, December 30, 2019, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Rollins and Blanche Hughes Arwood.
Luther served in the United States Army. He was a retired employee of Snap-on Tools and a member of Whitehead Hill Christian Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and James Arwood; a sister, Gladys Street; a nephew, Don Arwood; and two nieces, Connie Street and Peggy McMahan.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Geraldine Green Arwood; his nieces, Terri Hughes and husband Rocky, Angie A. Tribble and husband Jim, Jeanette Street and husband Roy; one nephew, Steve Arwood and wife Judy; a great-niece, Lori and Thomas Osborne; and great-nephews, Clint Gouge, Cole Gouge, Scotty Arwood, Cody Street, Joshua Hughes, Colby Guinn and James Arwood.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon Friday, January 3, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Terry Dugger, minister, and Mr. Wayne Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Kyte and his church family. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Amedisys Hospice, the staff of Sycamore Shoals Hospital and the staff of Hermitage Health Center. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in memory of Mr. Arwood to the American Heart Association, 208 Sunset Drive, Suite 356, Johnson City, TN 37604 or to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605-4255. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until noon Friday at the funeral home.
