JOHNSON CITY — The annual East Tennessee State University Social Work Professional Development Conference will be held on Friday, Feb. 28, at the Millennium Center.

Registration is now underway for the conference, which is the largest of its kind in the region and is sponsored by the ETSU Department of Social Work, located in the College of Clinical and Rehabilitative Health Sciences.

This year’s conference includes a Social Services Career and Field Fair featuring more than 30 area agencies from 9 a.m. to noon. The conference also features continuing education workshops throughout the day.

“This year, our workshops will focus on trauma-informed practices in social work, which is an area where we are seeing a growing need for education and information,” Wilkins said.

Workshops for continuing education credit include sessions on brainspotting (a brain-based therapeutic model for healing from a variety of physical and emotional ailments naturally), building a trauma-informed community, working with field students with trauma histories, and ethical, trauma-informed practice with transgender and non-binary clients.

A non-CE workshop titled “Preparing for Social Work Licensure” is also available.

The conference is free for all ETSU Department of Social Work-affiliated participants and Community Advisory Board members. The fee is $30 for National Association of Social Work members and $60 for non-NASW members.
