Sewing class offered at park

Donna Horowitz will be at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area Jan. 8 and 22 to teach the art of sewing. At the first session, Jan. 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. Horowitz will teach the basic functions of the sewing machine, which will include the operation of the buttonhole foot, zipper and basic feet. Students need to bring their sewing machine with power cord, instruction manual, foot pedal, and machine accessions. The instructor will provide supplies for the class. The maximum number for the class is
six. In the second class, Jan. 22, students will learn the basic skills of how to make an oven mitt and potholder. The class will cover working with batting, basic quilting, sewing curves and working with bias binding.
The instructor will provide the project supplies, iron, and board.
The cost for each class is $25. Students must register and pre-pay by calling the park at 543-5808.
