Wanda Joan Hughes Markland

Wanda Joan Hughes Markland, 69, of Roan Mountain, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2020, at the Waters of Roan Highlands after an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Oronda and Sylvia Odom Hughes.
Wanda retired from the Banner Elk Glove Factory. She was a member of St. John Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Louise Hathaway, Lewis “Buddy” Hughes, Blaine Hughes, G.W. Hughes and Glenn Hughes.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Rev. Perry Markland Sr.; her children, Karen (Ford) Julian, Lori (Jeff) Powell and Perry (Sue Ann) Markland Jr.; her sister, Shirley (Charlie) Miller; two brothers, Harland (Layla) Hughes and Ronnie (Sharon) Hughes; grandchildren, Brent (Beth) Powell, Karla (Beecher) Holtsclaw, Kristen (Travis) Turbyfill, Allie (Josh) Wooten, Dylen Markland, Tyler Powell, Erin Julian, Kenzie Foster, Macy (Trevor) Waycaster and Meagen Markland; Nannie’s babies (great-grandchildren) whom she loved, Kaylee and Addyson Wooten, Ethan Turbyfill and Owen Powell; and her special brothers-in-law who were like her brothers, Dana and Larry Dean Markland.
Funeral services for Wanda Joan Hughes Markland will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 15, at St. John Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. John Stevens officiating. Music will be provided by Lacey Maines. Interment will follow in the Moreland Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers will be her church family. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. John Free Will Baptist Church. Condolences may be sent to the family at our website, www.memorialfcelizabethton.com.
