Cyclones fall to Unicoi County, Cosby

The Elizabethton boys dropped a pair of hardwood contest over the weekend as the Unicoi County Blue Devils and Cosby Eagles both managed to pull away from the Cyclones down the stretch of both games for the victory.

After a close first half that ended in a 28-23 lead for the home team Blue Devils, a second half saw the Devils keep up a frenzied high outside shooting percentage leading to the Blue Devils keeping the Cyclones at bay.

Brock Thompson had a tremendous game for Unicoi County ringing up 29 points in the game.

Thompson hit five threes in the game as the Blue Devils accounted for 27 of their 57 from beyond the arc.

Brett Lingerfelt added a pair of three’s in scoring nine points for the Blue Devils in the Three Conference victory,

The Cyclones, meanwhile, got a team-high 12 points from Jordan Haynes and 11 points from Nico Ashley as the Blue Devils pulled out all stops including a defense most teams wouldn’t employ until the playoffs to take the win.

Donta Earnest added nine points in the contest with five points each being contributed by Jake Roberts and William Willocks.

Parker Hughes finished with a tough four points.

For the second night in a row, the Cyclones ran into a hot perimeter shooting team in the Cosby Eagles who fought off two runs by Elizabethton that saw the Cyclones close within two points each time.

The one-two-three punch of Eagle guards Jeremy Wise, Trey Johnson, and Braden Shaffer was just too much for the Cyclones to weather as all three of the Eagles were dead-eye marksman from the outside combining for 13 treys.

 

Wise led the charge with 22 while Johnson was close behind with 20. Shaffer finished with 14.

 

Chad Styles also connected on a pair of deep three’s for Cosby as well.

 

Elizabethton did get a solid game from senior Nico Ashley including a pair of dunks that brought the Cyclone fans to their feet in his way to 22 points.

 

William Willocks hit double figures with 13 while Jake Roberts knocked down 11 points.

 

Parker Hughes (9), Donta Earnest (2), and Jordan Haynes (2) closed out the scoring for the Cyclones.
