Steven Gene Pierce, 65, of Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2020, at his residence.
A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Billy Gene and Bernice Grace Ensor Pierce.
Steven was a 1972 graduate of Unaka High School and a 1978 graduate of East Tennessee State University with a degree in Surveying Technology. He was founder and operator of Iron Mountain Surveying for 30 years. He was a retired fireman with the Johnson City Fire Department after 29 years of service.
Steven was an avid musician and outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting, playing the guitar and gardening. He was a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238 and Carter Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Genia Peters Pierce; two children, Karen Pierce and special friend Aaron Taylor, and Emily White and husband Bryan; one grandson, Isaac White; a sister, Donna Scofield and husband Don; and five nieces and nephews, Hope, Jessie, Kate, Will and Zach.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Donald G. Scofield officiating. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 23, in the Blevins Cemetery with Pastor Don Brandon officiating. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Thursday, will be Bryan White, Ty LaRue, Brian Barnette, Jeff Ensor, Ron Davis, Allen Shelnutt and Aaron Taylor. The family would like to express a very special “Thank You” to the staff of Amedisys Hospice, the staff of Johnson City Internal Medicine and Dr. Jeff Hopland for the excellent care he received. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at his residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at our website, www.memorialfcelizabethton.com.
