Middle school basketball tournaments fill weekend schedule

With regular-season basketball concluded tournaments are slated to pick up in earnest this weekend and continuing into next week.
The Region 1-A Area Tournament kicked off for the girls at Hampton Elementary on Thursday night and the boys will take the court tonight for four games beginning at 4 pm.
Action then moves to Hampton High School Saturday night for semifinal action in both girls and boys play with games at 3 pm, 4:05 pm, 5:10 pm, and 6:15 pm.
Consolation and finals play will be at Hampton High School as well on Tuesday starting at 4 pm.
Teams playing in the tournament include Cloudland, Hampton, Central, Hunter, Keenburg, Providence, University, Little Milligan, and Unaka.
The top four teams in both boys’ and girls’ action will advance to the sectional tournament which will be played at John Sevier in Kingsport.
In the TMSAA East Tennessee Area 1 AAA tournament, the T.A. Dugger Jr. High boys’ and girls’ teams will take the court on Saturday morning at John Sevier in Kingsport.
The six-seed Jr. Cyclones (6-8) will be first up as they will play third-seed and host Sevier (9-5) at 12:30 pm. The winner advances to a semifinal game on Monday at 6:15 pm against the winner of the Church Hill and Greeneville game.
Consolation and championship games are scheduled for Thursday.
In girls’ play, the third-seed Jr. Lady Cyclones take the court at 1:45 pm against the sixth-seeded Church Hill Jr. Lady Panthers. The winner will get a semi-final contest against the winner of the Robinson and East Middle on Tuesday evening at 6:15 pm.
The consolation and championship games are on Thursday along with the boys’ games.
If either of the TAD teams can make it to the top three in the Area tournament, then they will advance to the TMSAA Sectional at Hardin Valley Middle School the week of February 1st through 8th.
