HAMPTON – The Jr. Bulldogs of Hampton have a bite like no other as Coach Dewayne Humphrey’s team rolled to yet again another regional title by clamping down on the University School Bucs 56-31.

Utilizing its jackhammer duo of Hayden Campbell pounding the rock on the inside and Dylan Trivett adding the explosiveness on the outside, Hampton gained the No. 1 seed from Area 1 Class A heading into this weekend’s Sectionals.

Trivett scored a game-high 20 points despite being saddled with four fouls and riding the bench for much of the latter half of the third quarter and early fourth.

Campbell imposed his will inside the paint to record 16 points in the win.

But it would be amiss to not recognize the play of Michael Anspaugh whose sure ball-handling and soft-touch whether from beyond the arc or driving the lane. Anspaugh totaled nine points.

Each Jr. Dog contributed when they came into the game as Chandler Smith added five points while Dominic Burleson, Elijah McKinney, and Elijah Church each netted two points.

Although Grayson Young and Caden Davis didn’t score, they played key minutes in the contest.

Andrew Cole led University with 12 points in the contest. A.J. Murphy and Braden Williams added six and five points respectively.

Third Place

Providence….54

Keenburg……24

The Tigers of Keenburg were simply caged by the Knights of Providence in the third-place game played earlier in the evening.

The game was pretty much decided in the opening quarter as Providence just couldn’t miss as the Knights outscored the Tigers 21-3.

That lead escalated to 31-7 at the break as the Knights cruised in the second half.

Isaiah Linberg led Keenburg in scoring with 12 points in the game with Travis Smalls dropping in five.

Aiden Gross totaled four points and CJ McKinney closed out the ledger with three for the Tigers.

Providence was led by Merritt Runnels who knocked down a game-high 16 points to lead the Knights. Clay Rowland added nine with Josh Marmo collecting six points in the victory.

All four boys’ teams advance to the Sectionals which begin this Saturday at John Sevier Middle School in Kingsport.

Hampton will play Monday.
