KINGSPORT – Neither the Hampton Junior Bulldogs or the Cloudland Lady Junior Highlanders had many problems with their respective opponent on Thursday evening at John Sevier Middle School in the East Sectional Class A tournament semifinal.
The Bulldogs got 23 points from forward Dylan Trivett and 18 from post player Hayden Campbell as Hampton Middle School rolled past Jonesborough 64-39 while Cloudland stopped Hampton 34-12.
“Going to the state has been a goal of theirs since last year,” Jr. Bulldogs head coach Dwayne Humphrey said. “They put in a ton of work since last spring and hopefully they aren’t satisfied with getting to the championship game. We have to come out prepared and ready.”
The ‘Dogs got off to a quick start with guard Chandler Smith hitting a pair of trey’s and Trivett had a put-back rebound for two and Hampton rolled to a 20-8 first period lead. The ‘Dogs extended to a 41-22 halftime lead with Trivett scoring 17 first-half points and Campbell adding 14.
“Chandler has come out two games in a row and settled us down and made some big shots,” Humphrey said. “It really gave the team a lift and Dylan is a great athlete. He really puts in the work.”
Campbell pulled down 11 boards and had four blocks as well as totaling 18 points and Humphrey was able to rest the pair some in the fourth quarter and let the bench get some solid minutes.
Hampton took a 59-30 lead going into the final stanza. Trivett connected on five three-ball shots in this one and Smith knocked down two more for the Bulldogs.
The ‘Dogs will take on Boone’s Creek in the championship game on Saturday at 2:30 pm.

Sahara McKinney had a game-high 10 points with Ryan Turbyfill adding nine more as Cloudland heads into the championship game on Saturday at 1 pm.
“We got a lot of good steals off the press and didn’t give them anything offensively,” Lady Jr. ‘Landers head coach Amy Horney said. “Izabella (Christman) was massive on the boards. She did a great job. Sahara is always so solid and Ryan was right behind her. Defensively we were solid.”
Christman added seven points to go along with her 12 total rebounds – seven at the offensive end – and the ‘Landers pressure defense made it difficult for the Junior Bulldogs to find any openings.
Taylor Berry had five points to lead Hampton.
