MILLIGAN COLLEGE — This summer, high school students have the opportunity to build a rocket, write and produce a short film, program a Raspberry Pi computer, enhance ministry skills, learn and earn CPR certification — all at Milligan’s Summer Camps in June and July.
Milligan’s uniquely designed camps offer concentrations in computer science, digital media, engineering, ministry leadership, nursing and occupational therapy.
Milligan’s computer science camp will occur June 22-26, and the occupational therapy camp will last two days, July 13-14. The remainder of the summer camps will take place July 13-17. A significant discount is available for registration before June 1.
For all camps, students have the opportunity to come for the day to the college’s beautiful campus located near Johnson City. Milligan’s camps will enhance students’ skills, present new techniques in their field of interest and connect them to other college-bound students in a supportive, Christian environment.
“Milligan Summer Camps offer teens incredible opportunities to learn from the college’s experienced faculty and be mentored by Milligan student counselors, who are respected by their peers and faculty,” said Dr. Lee Harrison, vice president for marketing and enrollment management. “Our summer camps provide high school students with a diverse array of academic offerings from which they can explore future college majors and career paths.”
In the engineering camp, students will explore the worlds of mechanical and electrical engineering with Milligan’s esteemed engineering faculty, whose experience includes NASA, West Point and the United Nations. Students will participate in friendly competitions, including programming a robotic car, creating high-pressure water-rockets and building wooden bridges.
At computer science camp, students will learn how to program a microprocessor, gain important team building skills and create a mini supercomputer out of Raspberry Pi computers.
The digital media camp will provide students with hands-on experience in the foundational elements of digital media, including digital photography, digital video filmmaking and graphic design.
The ministry leadership camp combines biblical foundation with practical ministry application. Students will build knowledge, skills, community and character as they consider ministry in the 21st century church.
Students in the nursing camp will learn from Milligan’s experienced nursing faculty, develop hands-on skills used by registered nurses every day, earn their CPR certification and tour area health care agencies.
For two days, students in the occupational therapy camp will experience an array of hands-on activities and be introduced to broad career opportunities in hospitals, schools, nursing homes, pediatric clinics and more.
Milligan Summer Camps are open to rising high school freshmen through seniors. For more information or to register, call 423-461-8410, email camps@milligan.edu or visit milligan.edu/camps.
