SEVIERVILLE (AP) — A South Carolina college student reported missing this week was found dead in Tennessee, a sheriff’s office confirmed.
John Andrew Martin, 21, was found dead Thursday in his car parked in the driveway of a Sevierville rental cabin, according to a statement from the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities had identified Martin as a student at Clemson University, which is about 90 miles (145 kilometers) northwest in South Carolina.
Investigators said they don’t suspect foul play but didn’t release further details. The body will be sent to the county medical examiner for an autopsy to determine a cause of death, the statement said.
Detectives in Pickens County, S.C., contacted the Tennessee agency after they tracked an IP address, a numeric designation that identifies its location on the internet, from a login to Martin’s email account this week. That led them to believe he was in the area, Pickens County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Chad Brooks told The Greenville News.
Martin was last seen leaving a Clemson-area home Sunday and deputies began searching for him Thursday morning, according to a statement from the Pickens sheriff’s office.
