Westminster Presbyterian Church in Johnson City will host Dr. Harry Reeder III as keynote speaker and will feature Christian missionaries serving in Latin American and Native American locations, on Friday, March 6, through Sunday, March 8, during the church’s annual missions conference.
This year’s theme — “Go! And make disciples!” — will focus on how to support ministry and evangelism in different cultures, in light of the Great Commission in Mark 16:19-20 when Jesus Christ commanded His followers to go and “make disciples of all nations.” Friday night’s discussion will look at the contrasts between mission fields: “White Cloud and José: One size fits all?”
“Our emphasis this year is on how we can share the Gospel message with those who come from different backgrounds,” says Theo Hagg, Westminster’s coordinator for this year’s missions program. “We want to be sensitive to other cultures yet still share eternal truths and the good news about Jesus Christ. We’re very honored to have Dr. Reeder and missionaries from the front lines coming to give us their perspectives in this important discussion.”
Dr. Harry L. Reeder III has worked in Christian ministry for more than 45 years, serving as senior pastor of Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, Ala., since 1999. He has also pastored churches in Chattanooga, Miami (Pinelands Presbyterian Church), and Matthews, N.C. (Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church).
Reeder leads a national Bible radio ministry called “In Perspective,” and also posts a daily podcast called “Today in Perspective” as well as a devotional, “Fresh Bread.”
Missionary speakers and panelists during the conference will include Joe and Becky Harrell with Mission to the World in Colombia, Bill Carr with Mission to the World’s Indigenous Ministries of North America, and Katie Taylor with Partners in Community International in Mexico.
The conference kicks off on Friday evening, March 6, with a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. and panel discussion by missionaries beginning at 7 p.m. On Saturday, activities will include a continental breakfast at 9 a.m., followed by men’s and women’s sessions from 10 to 11:45 a.m.
On Sunday, March 8, a combined Sunday School session with Reeder will begin at 9:15 a.m. in the fellowship hall for all youth and adult classes. Worship begins in the sanctuary at 10:30 a.m., with Reeder preaching. Childcare for children up to four years of age will be provided at all events.
