STONEY CREEK – For the second time in two days, the Unaka Lady Rangers used a big inning to seal a conference win as the Lady Rangers took care of the visiting Sullivan North Lady Raiders in a five-inning affair, 12-1.
The third inning turned out to be the killer for North as Unaka plated eight runs in the frame thanks to RBI’s from Alana Parsons, Beth Lowe, Trinity Bowers, Hailey Gilman.
It was the Lady Raiders who struck first in a steady rain at the top of the first inning when Kendall Nash’s single plated a run.
Trailing 1-0 entering the bottom of the second inning, Unaka finally broke the goose egg on the scoreboard with four runs and never looked back.
Noelle Collins led things off with a walk and advanced to second on a single off the bat of Lilie Kiser. A walk to Kailey Wilson juiced the bases for Coach Kenneth Chambers’s team.
A Lowe infield hit brought Collins home and advanced the other Lady Rangers a base making it 1-1. Sadie Shoun’s fielder’s choice chased home Kiser for a 2-1 Lady Ranger advantage.
Bowers followed with an RBI groundout to bring Lowe to the plate. The final run of the inning came on an error by North’s first baseman allowing Shoun to score making it 4-1 in favor of the Lady Rangers.
The eight-run outburst in the third game the Lady Rangers enough runs to claim the mercy-run rule after the top of the fifth.
Kiser had an outstanding day going 3-for-3 at the plate while Parsons collected a pair of hits as well. Parsons added four RBI’s to her season total while Lowe collected a pair of runs batted in as well.
Shoun took the pitching circle in the key conference game and didn’t disappoint as she twirled a complete-game, three-hitter striking out seven and walking only one. The run was earned.
Lipoma and Bayless picked up a hit apiece in the Lady Raiders three-hit performance in the contest.
The Lady Rangers will be in Hampton today to take on the Lady Bulldogs in a 4:30 pm contest.
