Jerry R.J. Roberts, 67, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord and his son, Billy Joe, on Thursday, March 19, 2020, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Jerry was born in Erwin, Tenn., to the late Edd and Mary Nell Ratliff Roberts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Billy Joe Roberts, and two brothers, James Roberts and William Roberts.
Jerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a member of Carter Christian Church in Stoney Creek, where he served as a deacon. He was also a Chaplain. He was in the construction field, where he had worked for over 20 years.
Jerry had a masonic lodge certificate and was a member of Hampton Masonic Lodge #750 F&AM. He dipped Copenhagen, enjoyed NASCAR races, building things, John Deere lawnmowers, cooking and eating a good meal and spending time with his family, especially all of his grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 38 years, Rhondia Arrowood, of the home; a daughter, Heather Marie Taylor (Robert) of Elizabethton; a son, John Guinn of Elizabethton; two brothers, Kenneth Roberts and Sam Roberts; one sister, Nancy Fender; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Eddie Arrowood; a sister-in-law, Brenda Arrowood; and several nieces, nephews and cousins; along with his beloved dog, Bandit, and a special niece, Jean Wheelock.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Jerry R.J. Roberts will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, March 23, in the Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Randy Carrier officiating. Music will be provided by Chris and Larey Pippin. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, prior to the service. The family would like to especially thank Teddy Taylor, Jeff Buckles, Ken Niddifer, Ashley Smith and Hillview Home Care and Natasha Peters. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Hampton Masonic Lodge or to the Shriners.
