In an effort to be proactive against the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, the Elizabethton Police Department has made some operational adjustments.
As of Wednesday, the Police Department lobby and the Criminal Investigation Division will be closed to the public until further notice.
Copies of traffic crash and police reports are available upon request by email to reports@elizabehtonpolice.org or telephone 423-542-4141 option 1.
For a non-emergency issue or information, the public may call 423-542-4141.
The records office and other administrative offices will continue to be staffed during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The public is reminded to dial 911 to report an emergency, a crime in progress, or file a report with an officer at any time.
Officers will continue to be out on proactive patrol and answer calls for service.
“Officers are following the CDC guidelines concerning the virus precautions for their personal safety and to reduce any virus spread. Officers will not hesitate to take enforcement actions and make arrests as necessary,” said Jason Shaw, Elizabethton Chief of Police.
Officers are handling some calls for service by telephone to help reduce personal contacts. Those calling should leave a good call back number should you call for an officer.
“Our law abiding citizens and visitors are often our best eyes and ears. If you have information regarding criminal behavior, please let us know,” said Shaw.
He also reminded citizens who have a smartphone to download the free Elizabethton PD app to submit anonymous tips and photos at this link: http://www.elizabethton.org/departments/report_crime.php
