Joel Wayne Oliver, 54, Elizabethton, passed away Monday, March 30, 2020, at Johnson City Medical Center.
Joel was a native of Carter County and a graduate of Unaka High School. He retired from the Tennessee National Guard. He served in Desert Storm and Iraq Freedom.
Joel was a member of Watauga Masonic Lodge and was of the Baptist Faith. He loved hunting, gardening and loved his farm animals.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Patsy Morris Oliver.
Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Martha Hughes; his daughter, Ashley (Scotty) Montgomery of Virginia and Joel Wayne Oliver Jr., Elizabethton; his father, Ernest Oliver, Elizabethton; three grandchildren, Gracie, Luke and Sophie Montgomery; a brother, Ernest Oliver, Elizabethton; several nieces and nephews; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joe and Sheila Hughes; and his sisters and brothers-in-law.
Interment will be in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. There will be a memorial service at a later date. Friends may register their presence at the funeral home Wednesday or Thursday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at our website at www.memorialfcelizabethton.com.
