Most teams only got about three to four games into their spring sports season before COVID-19 took its toll and brought school and the spring sports season to a stoppage.
In talking to some coaches, there was hope being held out that possibly school could get back in session and spring sports could actually have an opportunity to restart.
However, with Governor Bill Lee’s extension of the Stay at Home initiative on Monday with an indication that he will address the remaining school season year on Wednesday, it gets more and more unlikely that this will be the case.
In Carter County, there are several spring sports that have seniors that will not be able to complete their final year of prep play.
As a result, the Elizabethton Star is asking for parents, guardians, and coaches of senior spring sports athletes to please send us a photo of your athlete with the following information: name, school, sports awards and accolades, and future collegiate plans if any.
The Star will be featuring these athletes during the upcoming weeks as they are received to make sure that all of our seniors know how much we appreciate them and their contribution to their respective school and community.
All spring sports are encouraged to submit this information including track, tennis, soccer, baseball, and softball.
Information can be emailed to ivan.sanders@elizabethton.com or sent to Ivan Sanders at 300 North Sycamore St., Elizabethton, TN 37643.
It is important that we honor these athletes for their contributions and we are looking forward to honoring them in our sports page.
