Auburn Austin Townsend

Auburn Austin Townsend, 76, Johnson City, passed away Monday, April 13, 2020, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital after a brief illness.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Parks and Ophia Matherly Townsend.
Auburn was a retired carpenter. He was a member of Watauga Masonic Lodge #622. He loved bluegrass music.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Townsend, and seven brothers and sisters, Kathryn Townsend, Gene Townsend, Willis Townsend, Bob Townsend, Matoka Woody, Denver Townsend and Argus Townsend.
Survivors include his sons, Oggie Townsend and wife Shannon and Shane Townsend and his fiancée Stephanie Fine; four grandchildren, Bradley, Dylan, Jordyn and Ashlyn; two sisters, JoAnn Valko and Maxine Franck; and several nieces and nephews.
The graveside service will be conducted Thursday at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home and Tammy and Maureen of Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Friends may register their presence at the funeral home from noon until 5 p.m. Wednesday or from 9 a.m. until noon Thursday.
