Making the cut… Unaka’s Ramsey named TSWA All-State in girl’s basketball

Although it was not the season that the Unaka Lady Ranger basketball team would have preferred to have, one player on the team was recognized by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA) for her play.
 
Freshman Lyndie Ramsey was named to the 2019-2020 TSWA All-State team on Monday for the Class A classification. Ramsey was only one of five players selected from Northeast Tennessee over all three classifications.
 
Ramsey averaged 16 points, six rebounds, three blocks, and three assists per game in her first season at the high school level for Coach Kenneth Chambers Unaka squad.
 
“She works hard on her own,” said Chambers. “For a freshman, she is a really good scorer and we worked on her defense and moving her feet throughout the season. She would come to me after games and ask if she was doing better on defense.
“There were games where she led us in rebounding. She is lanky and taller than she looks. She gets in there and goes and gets it.
‘Right now she and the other players are trying to do some stuff on their own like ballhandling and trying to get stronger.”
Other Northeast Tennessee players that made the All-State team were Daniel Boone’s Jaycie Jenkins and Science Hill’s Alasia Smith in Class AAA, Abbey Crawford from Sullivan Central in Class AA, and North Greene’s Brooklyn Anderson and Ramsey in Class A.
