TheCity of Elizabethton Parks and Recreation released the following statement Thursday evening.
Franklin Pool will be closed for the 2020 season. We take the safety of our patrons and staff at all of our facilities very seriously. In this COVID-19 pandemic, we are dealing with a lot of unknowns. As a department, our goal is to provide recreation while trying to limit the spreading of COVID-19. The fact of the matter is the virus is still making its way across the state. For this reason, schools, businesses and playgrounds have been closed and many special events have been canceled. There currently is no vaccine for COVID-19 and not opening municipal swimming pools for the season is a way our communities can help stop the spread.
It is for these reasons that we as a department feel it is best to close The Franklin Pool for the 2020 season.
