Martha Louise Ellis Young, 91, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 2, 2020, from Hermitage Health Center in Elizabethton. Martha was born in Shell Creek, Tenn., to the late David and Mae Perry Ellis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Gene Young; her brothers, Ray Ellis, Dale Ellis, Carroll Ellis, Charles Ellis and Frank Ellis; and her sisters, Elizabeth Winters, Helen Ledford and Lessie Turbyfill.
Martha retired from East Tennessee Undergarment Company as a seamstress and was a member of First Christian Church of Elizabethton. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading and quilting. Martha loved to spend time with her family. She was a knowledgeable and wise lady and will always be treasured by those who knew her.
Those left to cherish her many wonderful memories include two sons, Philip Young and wife Teresa of Bristol, Va., and Keith Young and wife Stephanie of Elizabethton; one daughter, Jennifer Ward and husband Glenn of Hoover, Ala.; her grandchildren, Melissa Jamie Emmel and husband Dan, Joshua Young, Jack Young, William B. Ward and wife Niusha, Benjamin Ward and girlfriend Stella and JenaBeth Huskey and husband Josh; one great-grandson, Henry Adam Huskey; one brother, Lester Ellis and wife Dot of Georgia; and one sister, Clara Heaton and husband Walter of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Friends may call at Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home and Cremation Services from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday, May 4, to sign the guest register book.
A graveside service to honor the life of Martha Louise Ellis Young will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Michael Klaus, minister, officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff and nurses at Hermitage Health Care Center and the nurses of Caris Hospice for their tender loving care of Martha and her family. Also, to Mr. Michael Klaus, minister, and First Christian Church family for their prayers and support. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to First Christian Church, 513 Hattie Avenue, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
