Since May 6, All That Glitters Salon and Spa has reopened their doors.
The Elizabethton beauty salon previously closed their doors on March 21 in response to COVID-19.
Frances Fabish, owner of the salon, said she and coworker, Rebecca “Becky” Key, spent time with their families and did what they could to keep busy.
“It was just trying to figure out ways to keep ourselves busy, we are so used to working on people and loving on people,” she said. “It was hard to be without them.”
Fabish said she feels more blessed than many during this time with supportive people around her. She applied for grants, but did not hear back. It also took her six weeks to get unemployment. She received two checks before the salon reopened. Despite the closure, the business is still also going strong.
It was after a couple of date changes, and salon owners across the state calling Governor Lee to allow salons to reopen, that salons were able to do so. Fabish said when she and Key found out the news they were ecstatic.
Upon reopening, guidelines remain in place. They, like many others, are following the Tennessee Pledge, which outlines guidelines like wearing face coverings, no congregating, no providing food or beverages in the salon, appointment only, screening customers and no facials. Fabish said they wear masks, gloves, etc. when around customers. She also detailed the cleaning practices she has implemented.
“We decided to go with disposable products (files, buffers, foot files, toe separators, flip flops) instead of the state board requirements to sanitize and disinfect such tools,” she said. ”We also have an autoclave for our metal instruments to sterilize which is also above board standards, along with our regular sanitizing and disinfecting of our tools and stations.”
Fabish noted with guidelines it isn’t easy for a hugger.
“We’re huggers,” she laughed. “You know you kind of go and lunge at somebody, but then you realize you have to step back.”
These guidelines will be in place until further notice.
With the news of reopening, customers have been very happy.
“They are absolutely giddy and amazing and happy to be here,” she said. “We’ve also had a lot of calls from new people. It breaks my heart because I have to tell them we don’t have any availability until June. But it makes consumers rethink where they are spending their money and getting their nails done. I found it especially humbling that people want to come here because they know we follow the rules and then some.”
While there are no current openings, Fabish said that Key will have openings later this month into June. For more information on All That Glitters Salon and Spa, you can go to www.allthatglittersspa.com. You can also call 423-773-5354.
“Beyond anything, we are so grateful to our customers, and we wouldn’t be here without them,” Fabish said.
