Imogene Johnson Markland

Mrs. Imogene Markland, 95, of Snellville, Ga., passed Saturday, May 9, 2020, at the home of her daughter in Snellville, following a brief illness. Imogene was born December 13, 1924 in the Chuckey Community of Greene County, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester Johnson and Nina Lavona Shelton Johnson Green.

Imogene was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elizabethton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Edward “Edd” Markland, on July 22, 2009; a sister, Goldean Deal; and a brother, Lewis Johnson.

She was a loving and devoted wife to her husband of 63 years, to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Imogene was a very loving spirit, and all who met her loved her.

Imogene worked at the Bemberg factory in Elizabethton in her younger years.

Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, D’ Jenane Markland of  Dawsonville, Ga., and Mrs. Patty Dondero and her husband Bill of Snellville, Ga.; three grandchildren, Kelly Menoche, Billy Dondero and his wife Jennifer and Ryan Dondero and his wife Jessica; and six great-grandchildren, Andrew Menoche, Kathryn Menoche, Ella Dondero, Thomas Edward “Teddy” Dondero, Lydia Dondero and Quentin Dondero.

Private graveside services will be conducted in the Rittertown Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Raymond Amos officiating. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to First United Methodist Church, 325 East E Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643, or Food for the Multitude, C/O First United Methodist Church, (please note Food for Multitude on memo line).
