Betty Jo (Johnson) Greene, 89, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 13, 2020, at her residence. Betty Jo was born in Carter County to the late Jarvis and Blanche Lipford Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Dewey Greene Jr.; her grandson, Daniel Berry; and a brother, Lewis “Poke” Johnson.
Betty Jo was a homemaker and a charter member of Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church. She loved the “Young at Heart” Class and looked forward to all the fall trips to Pigeon Forge. She loved shopping with her best friend, June Telleen, whom she shared a lifetime of friendship and were the best of friends since first grade. She also loved her special friend and best neighbor, Betty Lou Chambers, whom she shared a friendship for over 50 years.
Betty Jo loved shopping and in her younger years she enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and many other children.
Those left to cherish her many wonderful memories include her children, Connie Meade of Blountville, Suzanne Berry (Dennis) of Elizabethton and Tony Greene, also of Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Shane Stocton of Knoxville and Jonah Berry (Crystal) of Elizabethton; a sister-in-law, Sharon Adams of Gray; and several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Vincent Greene, of South Carolina.
Friends may call at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton from noon until 4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 16, to sign the guest register book.
A graveside service to celebrate the life of Betty Jo (Johnson) Greene will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Randy Johnson, Pastor Mark Potter and Mr. David Siebenaler officiating. Active pallbearers will be Tony Greene, Shane Stocton, Jonah Berry, Vincent Greene, Michael Dugger and Thomas Stout. Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Harrison, Carl Robinson, Casey Blevins, Randall Jenkins and Hank Jenkins. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Sunday. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Young at Heart Sunday School Class, Amedysis Hospice – Chelsea, Kayla, Stephanie and Stacey and Katrina Blevins for the love and support given to Betty Jo and her family.
